Purpose

This workshop is based on the SAQA-registered Unit Standard ID 115755 – Design & Develop Outcomes-Based Assessment, NQF Level 6 with 10 credits. The intention of this workshop is the assist companies to draw up their own assessment material.

Duration

The workshop runs over three (3) continuous days of classroom training.

Learning Assumed to be in Place

Participants who wish to attend this workshop:

- Should have achieved the Assessor unit standard ID 115753

- Should be competent in the field in which they want to design assessments

- Should be able to interpret and analyse relevant unit standards

Workshop methodology

The Role of the Assessment Designer and Developer

An assessment designer supplies assessors with the required assessment guides and instruments to be used when conducting summative assessments.

The assessment designer needs to have assessment background and be innovative and creative. It would be easier for the designer if s/he has subject matter expertise.

Assessment

The assignment includes the design of as well as the developed instruments and assessment guides based on unit standards required in the workplace. The unit standard used for the design should be worth at least 8 credits or two unit standards with a combination of 8 credits. The design must be piloted and reviewed.

The assessor will mark the assignments and ask the designers for more evidence where required. This assignment serves as an opportunity to put in place some of the assessment instruments and guides required in the learner’s workplace.
